Today is about COCONUT
Interestingly... Coconut Oil by nature is a refined product, because oil does not grow on a tree. Coconuts do.
The coconut tree (Cocos nucifera) is a member of the family Arecaceae (palm family) and the only species of the genus Cocos. The term coconut can refer to the whole coconut palm or the seed, or the fruit, which, botanically, is a drupe, not a nut.
Coconut, as a term is derived from the 16th-century Portuguese and Spanish word coco meaning "head" or "skull", from the three indentations on the coconut shell that resemble facial features.
It is a tree that grows in tropical climate that are frost free, such as those in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific region. In Nigeria, we have it mainly on the coast at location distance of no more than 450 miles from the sea. The following states, which are engaged in production of coconut oil in Nigeria are included in the list: Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Ogun, Rivers, Anambra, Ondo, Enugu, Imo, Oyo, Abia, and Edo. (in no particular order)
There are various method used in extracting the oil, and the two main types are Cold pressed and Hot pressed. – Either of them is fine and produces great oil. The difference is in how much goodies you get!!!

WHAT IS BAD ABOUT COCONUT.
Coconut is one of those foods that seems to ping-pong between the 'good food' and 'bad food' list, and if you're confused about this, don't worry – even experts can't quite agree. Below are two of such controversy:
- One of the best-known coconut water benefits, an uncommonly high amount of potassium, is also the main reason that drinking too much coconut water can cause harm.
- Coconut oil is said to be comedogenic – tends to clog the pores.
